The event turned into a high-energy celebration as women aged 20 to 80 filled the room with laughter, dancing, and rock-concert-level excitement during Tracey Bell’s celebrity impersonation show.

Photos of Tracey Bell’s impersonations of Cher, Liza Minnelli, Shania Twain, Tina Turner, Katy Perry, Madonna, and Celine Dion—with enthusiastic audience participants—were beautifully captured by talented sports photographer Jennifer Small, who somehow managed to snap incredible images while surrounded by a very lively crowd.

A Castlegar Audience That Knows How to Party

I had a feeling this show would be special.

Two years earlier, I performed at The Confluence Gala, a Chamber of Commerce fundraiser for the community. The event was such a success that I knew returning to Castlegar would be a treat.

I’m incredibly grateful for the loyal fans I have in the area—especially my friend Jo-Anne Bursey, who sponsored both events and is one of the region’s top realtors.

Still, even with those expectations, I didn’t anticipate just how enthusiastic the audience would be.

Within minutes, women were dancing, cheering, and singing along in front of the stage like it was a live rock concert. The energy was contagious and unforgettable.

Opening the Show with Marilyn Monroe

Every year at the Diamond Dinner, organizers give away a diamond ring, so I decided to open the show with something perfectly fitting.

I appeared as Marilyn Monroe performing “Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend.”

Under Marilyn’s iconic pink satin gown were several layered quick-change costumes, allowing me to transform within seconds into some of the world’s most famous performers.

In rapid succession, the audience experienced impersonations of:

• Celine Dion
• Tina Turner
• Shania Twain
• Lady Gaga
• Madonna
• Cher
• and more

Quick-change transformations are always a crowd favourite, and this audience loved every second.

Audience Members Became the Stars of the Show

One of the highlights of the evening was bringing guests onstage to join the fun.

Volunteers enthusiastically:

• Played inflatable guitarsalongside Celine Dion, Shania Twain, and Tina Turner
• Jammed with stuffed saxophones
• Danced with the performers throughout the show

Throughout the night, more people volunteered than I could fit onstage, which meant I had to think quickly to keep everything organized and safe.

Things got especially lively when “Madonna” recruited the Rotary Club waiters as backup dancers, much to the crowd’s delight.

A 20-Year Tradition—and One of the Best Yet

The Diamond Dinner has been a beloved community tradition for more than 20 years, bringing women together for an evening of fun, fundraising, and celebration.

After this year’s performance, organizers told me many attendees said it was the best Diamond Dinner ever.

That’s the kind of compliment every performer treasures.

And the good news?

I’ll be returning in 2026.

The rest of my entry was a masterpiece, a sculpture of Meat Loaf in his tuxedo, sitting on top of a giant pan of papier mache meatloaf with a tiny bottle of ketchup beside him. I used a beer bottle for his body and made his hands and face out of dough I made with flour, salt and water.

I had front row seats. His performance was amazing, so dramatic, I could see sweat flying off him. During encores, the limo driver told me that my friend and I would miss our flight home if we stayed any longer. The Deejay chaperone said it was up to me.

I was dancing in the opening ceremonies of the Commonwealth Games the next morning. Of course the two most exciting events of my young life were back to back. I chose to leave without going backstage.

We still missed the flight. I didn’t take any pictures, not even of my contest entry. My ticket stub is somewhere.

I can see, hear and feel it all in my mind, including the Greyhound bus ride home and running into position at Commonwealth Stadium.

It was a good example of what working in the corporate events industry would be like. I worked my heart out on a creative proposal then ended up with back to back events. The first one ran long, there were transportation issues, troubleshooting was required, sleep was sacrificed and I pulled it all off with a smile on my face.

The caller was David Wilson, the charismatic husband of Laura Lee Brown, a Jack Daniels Bourbon heiress. The event was a VIP gala following the Kentucky Derby, at the amazing 21c Museum Hotel in Louisville. The New York Times, Conde Nast Traveller, and Cher (who I impersonated at the event) have given the art-filled hotel rave reviews.

I sent a contract and David’s assistant booked my flight.  I was nervous about customs because I didn’t have time to get a US work permit. I had no problem at US security. I was going to the Kentucky Derby! There’s nothing suspicious about that. All the luggage? It must just be big hats.

My dad’s birthday was a few days away, on May 5^th. I wanted to tell him that I was performing at a Kentucky Derby party. Then, when I got there and saw the derby souvenirs in my hotel room, I wanted to send them to him. The next day, I wanted to call him and say, “Dad! I just rehearsed my Madonna routine in a hotel gym with NFL players!” I hadn’t seen my dad since I’d surprised him on his last birthday. He died six weeks later, two days before Father’s Day.

Dad would’ve gone wild if he’d seen my performance of Vogue, with Cincinnati Bengals onstage as boy toys. He used to say that I’d have made a good quarterback because I got onstage and ran for 45 minutes. He also taught me how to throw a good spiral.

A former Miss America joined me onstage at the party, kicking her heels up as I impersonated Liza Minnelli. I’ll bet Dad would have joined us if he’d had a few drinks. He used to cry when I did New York, New York.

The airport was crazy busy the next day, with everyone leaving. I was exhausted, waiting in a long line at Starbucks. Then I saw him, in the back of an airport golf cart right beside me, Smokey Robinson!  He nodded at me, kind of like, “please don’t scream and draw attention”, so I just stared as he and his wife debated getting coffee. I should have offered to get some for them, but I couldn’t speak. I thought about my dad again, how he would have told everyone, including strangers, about my Kentucky Derby adventures. Repeatedly. For years.

I ordered my coffee and while I was waiting, I had a surreal experience.  A couple at one of the tables got excited and hollered over,  “ It’s you! You’re the performer from last night! You were wonderful!”. I was being star-spied while Smokey Robinson was in a golf cart beside the escalator.

David Wilson called to hire me the next year but I was already booked. I heard from him again when he was planning his Birthday party, but nothing became of that. I hope to hear from him again, even if it’s the middle of the night.

Hundreds of people actually thought she was Katy Perry when  Tracey posted the quick-change from Katy Perry into Celine Dion on TikTok.

Her account was frozen after the first 2 million views because she added a description to her profile. When Tracy wrote, “I’m 12 divas”, their bot read, “I’m 12”, and removed her account!  Bell had to submit information and images of herself, to prove she was over 13, before they’d re-activate the account.

Tracey Bell wowed the crowd when she performed for 1000 healthcare workers from Royal Columbia Hospital on June 23^rd.

Event planner Emily Reedman  posted this recommendation on Linkedin :

“Tracey is phenomenal at what she does. She is very easy to work with – communicative, organized and professional. Beyond that, she’s incredibly talented and put on an exciting and interactive show that our guests raved about. I highly recommend Tracey’s services!”

Tracey was anxious when she realized that she’d be wearing 10 layers plus padding and wigs in 30 degree heat at the White Rock Sea Festival, so she got creative and altered costumes to be less hot. It took over 10 hours of hand-sewing to adjust the quick-change outfits and remove the 3-layer bustier that holds her in and the costumes up! Two inches of Velcro were added to the waists of Tracey’s Celine Dion, Tina Turner and Dolly Parton costumes. She also put ice cubes under her wigs during the show, to manage in the heat. The whole audience played along, clapping with Dolly, doing the Bird Dance with Celine, dancing along with Cher and cheering for the enthusiastic audience participation.

Bell said, “ I was having so much fun, I hardly noticed the heat onstage!”.

Tracey Bell portrayed Marilyn Monroe, Celine Dion and Cher at HSBC’s Pride Event in Vancouver and was spotted in Vancouver’s Pride Parade, prancing and posing as Dolly Llama!

It’s one of six that I produced for a Wizard of Oz themed virtual fundraiser. Pre-taped content is great for live, virtual and hybrid events and I love creating it!

I re-wrote scripts several times, created costumes, hung a green screen, rigged lighting, blacked out my windows and filmed myself alone in my costume room. My editing wizard and co-star, David C Jones borrowed and helped build costumes, recruited volunteer make-up artists and a camera operator, found his own studio space, then watched YouTube tutorials and learned how to add special effects. He went above and beyond the rainbow to make the videos literally magical.

As challenging as all of that was, the hardest part was talking the client into letting us do it! I wasn’t  hired to create videos. I was hired to host a virtual event dressed as 16-year-old Dorothy Gale. The event planner had talked the board of directors into having me host instead of a TV news anchor. For seven weeks I begged them to hire David and let us create pre-taped content for the event. I needed the lion, tinman and scarecrow! I was so passionate about David being a part of the project that I hired him myself and paid him out of my fee.

This event was really important to me because I know and love the Langley community of generous donors and volunteers. I performed at their 2019 Hollywood gala and took pictures with most of the 400 guests.  I imagined them sitting in front of their screens alone at home this year. I wanted to give them something special. My heart was in it.

The 2021 event raised $311,000 for the hospital. My client wrote, “Your work on our virtual gala was first class. We’re still hearing amazing things from guests who participated!”

I met Amanda in January of 2020, at the special events conference GO WEST in Edmonton. She had seen my showcase performance the day before and was interested in having me perform live as a dozen divas for an in-person fundraiser benefiting female students in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) in Alberta. At the time we didn’t know that all live events would soon be cancelled indefinitely.

I was surprised to hear from her fifteen months later and grateful that I had produced a virtual show that I could customize for her group. I transformed before their eyes to become nine celebrities including Dolly Parton, Celine Dion, Cher, and Michael Jackson. Guests said I was, “HILARIOUS!!!” as I performed DIY demonstrations, gave advice, and shared shenanigans while interacting and responding to comments.

The One Thousand Women organization had already raised 3.5 million dollars since 2010 and built a childcare facility at Norquest. They raised an additional $151,000 at this year’s One Thousand Women: A Million Possibilities Luncheon!
