Imagine yourself at a Celine Dion concert where Celine walks into the audience and sings directly to you. Would you feel special? What if Marilyn Monroe sang her breathy version of Happy Birthday to your company president? Would you take a picture? Do you smile and laugh? If the people you work with played guitars like rock stars at your company party, would you cheer them on? My stage shows get those reactions.

People like to shine, even shy people.

On New Year’s Eve, when New York New York is playing and everyone in the room is doing a kick line, do you join in, or smile while you watch them? Would you clap along with people if Dolly Parton encouraged you to? If your friends were strutting their stuff onstage with Madonna, would you want to video them? These are the experiences that I create with people. Whether you want to kick up your shoes, cheer from the sidelines, or smile as you watch others, there is a place for everyone at my shows.

After decades of experience, I know how to choose the first participants

It only takes a few outgoing people to get audience participation started, to set the example. If they can do it, others can too. Nobody has to be perfect. It’s especially rewarding when I get shy people involved in the show. I get the same reaction as a hypnotist, where participants are entranced and want to let their inner rock star shine.  After decades of experience as an interactive impressionist, I know how to choose the first participants, then encourage and inspire them. I’m encouraging them. Joy, fun and laughter are contagious.

My stage shows are rewarding to me because I’m engaging people and giving them an experience they’ll talk about for years, whether they’re a spectator or participant. When we’re engaged, we’re fully present in the moment. Playing is good for us. Connecting is good for us. My purpose is to create a show where we do those things.  I put my whole heart into it. There’s a lot of me in the show: Tracey Bell disguised as Lady Gaga, Tina Turner, Judy Garland, Janis Joplin, Tina Turner, Julie Andrews, Shania Twain, Alanis Morrissette, and the rest.

They started interviewing me on my couch with my wigs beside me. I tried to do impressions of the divas in my impersonation show, but I couldn’t turn on my celebrity personas. I couldn’t answer questions properly or finish my sentences. I was spent and critical of everything I said.

Then we crammed into my bathroom and Christine brought out the best in me, asking me questions about running my own business in the corporate entertainment industry and inspiring women. Christine reminded me that I was the fabulous, courageous woman who had connected with and wowed the audience a few nights earlier. I had changed in seconds during the fundraiser, energetically impersonating Cher, Madonna, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Liza Minnelli, Judy Garland, Tina Turner, Marilyn Monroe, Dolly Parton, Shania Twain, Celine Dion and Julie Andrews.

Months went by after the filming and I figured it would never air because I’d screwed up the footage, the lighting wasn’t good at the club or I was too old and not relevant enough to appeal to the Millennial audience. Silly me.

Somehow they pieced together these quotes of mine:

“We just need to remember courage.  Courage comes from our hearts.”

“Fear needs to be dissolved.”

“Let’s celebrate how fabulous we are as artists and performers.”

I love the beautifully filmed and miraculously edited one-minute video. It reminds me who I am.

The Star of Mary Poppins The Broadway Musical, Sara-Jean Hosie was being photographed all over Vancouver to promote her upcoming show at the Stanley Industrial Alliance Stage while Tracey Bell was dressed as Marilyn Monroe and being photographed at English Bay for the World People Project by Tallulah Tallulah.

By chance, Mary Poppins and Marilyn Monroe saw each other in front of the Sylvia Hotel and spontaneously performed as a duo. It was especially hilarious when Mary Poppins decided to copy Marilyn’s “Seven-Year Itch” pose by standing over Bell’s fan and blowing up her nickers. Who knew such opposites would get along so well?

Sara-Jean has won two Jessie Awards for her theatre work and thrills adults and children as she magically flies over the rooftops of London. The award winning singer will perform “A Spoonful of Sugar” and “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious” as well as the other classic songs in Mary Poppins. The show runs from December 5^th to January 4^th.

Tracey Bell has won two  Entertainer of the Year awards through the Canadian Special Event Industry and thrills guests when her skirt flies in the air at Corporate Events, Family Parties and Gala Fundraisers.  She performs, “Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend” and “Happy Birthday Mr. President” as well as other classic songs in her stage show, 8 Divas in 44 Minutes.

The Vancouver film industry is full of Wild Women and they know how to celebrate! Tracey Bell was thrilled to perform for some of them when she hosted Women In Film and Television’s 25th Anniversary Spotlight Awards Gala on April 30th .

This was a party unlike the corporate events Tracey usually performs at. The audience was not at all reserved or inhibited. They bounced in their seats and screamed like crazed Beatles fans throughout Tracey’s impersonations. They laughed loudly and cheered for Tracey and their colleagues.

Horror film revolutionaries, Sylvia Soska and her Twisted Twin Jen Soska,thanked Tina Turner when they accepted their Artistic Innovation Award. They had no idea that Tina would be one of the celebrities being impersonated later in the evening.

The Twisted Twins’ films have received multiple national and international awards, especially at horror-related festivals. Celine Dion introduced the award presenter, Peter Allen, who has composed music for over 100 films.

At the end of the show. Tracey brought the legendary director, Anne Wheeler on stage to play guitar and saxophone for her Tina Turner ‘Simply The best” routine. Sylvia Soska rocked out on guitar beside Anne. It was a wonderful evening.

Liza Minnelli, Joan Rivers, Drew Carey, Martin Short and Julio Iglesias have performed on that stage along with dozens of other big names. I feel like a top A-list celebrity when I’m there and the audiences respond like I’m really the stars I portray.

I was thrilled to perform for a repeat client at the favorite venue last month. They book me annually for their service awards, since the recipients change every year. The event planners who produce this show are so thoughtful and considerate that I feel spoiled. I even have my own personal attendant providing anything I want in my green room.

I wore my new Tina Turner wig, styled by Anthony Crossfield, and dedicated ‘Simply the Best’ to the award winners.

The whole audience stood and danced, kicking their feet in the air to ‘New York New York’ while I impersonated Liza Minnelli.

I had amazing audience participation when I performed as Janis Joplin. Everyone clapped along to ‘Mercedes Benz’ and then audience volunteers played guitars and rocked out with me to ‘Piece of My Heart’.

Dressed as Dolly Parton, I did some stand up comedy after ‘Nine to Five’. Everyone clapped along as I walked through the audience interacting with them.

Cher was a crowd favorite. I am referred to as a look-a-like most often when I imitate her. I dressed up a very funny award winner as Sonny Bono. He stole the show with his comedic portrayal of Cher’s ex-husband. Cher might be the most often impersonated celebrity in the world, especially by female impersonators.

People laugh the hardest when I act like Celine Dion. She is really funny without trying to be. When I’m in character as her it is easy to be a comedian. All I have to do is adlib about her husband René Angélil.

When I was Madonna I had the best Boy Toy dancers. I wish I could post a video, but I want to respect their privacy.

I enjoy performing for all of my corporate audiences. Having exceptional audience participation along with flawless sound, light and video production is a dream come true. The River Rock Show Theatre and my amazing audience from last month brought me more joy than I can express.
