There were five people and an animal in my washroom; the producer Christine and one videographer were in my bathtub, an interviewer and second videographer were in the doorway and my cat sat on the throne. The team had filmed my performance at Celebrities Nightclub five nights earlier and were interviewing me for Vancouver’s new media company, The Mix. They were all delightful, warm, kind and comfortable to be around. I was exhausted, crashing after months of promoting, rehearsing and preparing for my special event that was now over. Despite feeling physically, mentally and emotionally exhausted, I put on a big smile and welcomed the crew.

They started interviewing me on my couch with my wigs beside me. I tried to do impressions of the divas in my impersonation show, but I couldn’t turn on my celebrity personas. I couldn’t answer questions properly or finish my sentences. I was spent and critical of everything I said.

Then we crammed into my bathroom and Christine brought out the best in me, asking me questions about running my own business in the corporate entertainment industry and inspiring women. Christine reminded me that I was the fabulous, courageous woman who had connected with and wowed the audience a few nights earlier. I had changed in seconds during the fundraiser, energetically impersonating Cher, Madonna, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Liza Minnelli, Judy Garland, Tina Turner, Marilyn Monroe, Dolly Parton, Shania Twain, Celine Dion and Julie Andrews.

Months went by after the filming and I figured it would never air because I’d screwed up the footage, the lighting wasn’t good at the club or I was too old and not relevant enough to appeal to the Millennial audience. Silly me.

Somehow they pieced together these quotes of mine:

“We just need to remember courage. Courage comes from our hearts.”

“Fear needs to be dissolved.”

“Let’s celebrate how fabulous we are as artists and performers.”

I love the beautifully filmed and miraculously edited one-minute video. It reminds me who I am.

Corporate Entertainer Tracey Bell Comes Home

Tracey Bell spoke with Liz Nicholls of The Edmonton Journal this week for an interview. Their conversation covers her history as an award-winning corporate entertainer and her upcoming show at the 2016 Edmonton Pride Festival.

The interview was especially memorable for Tracey Bell. An Edmonton native, she got her start there as a corporate entertainer, doing celebrity impersonations and live costume changes as Cher, Madonna, Janis Joplin, and Tina Turner, to name a few.

For Tracey Bell, an amusing aspect to speaking to The Edmonton Journal about her earliest days doing celebrity impersonations is that she used to work for the newspaper in the circulation department.

Now based in Vancouver, award-winning corporate entertainer Tracey Bell performs around the world at corporate events. Besides performing as the original group of Cher, Madonna, Janis Joplin and Tina Turner, she also does interactive celebrity impersonations of Marilyn Monroe, Liza Minnelli, Celine Dion, Julie Andrews, and Judy Garland.

Tracey Bell is excited about returning to Edmonton to perform at the 2016 Edmonton Pride Festival. Her show will include samples from her one-woman show, “8 Divas in 44 Minutes”, which includes interactive impersonations of classic celebrity divas and live costume changes.

Here’s a preview of the interview:

This unusual accumulation of divas arrives courtesy of one funny, long-legged alter ego, a satirist in heels who loves to play dress-up — in other people’s clothes. Pride in the Park, the post-parade party at End of Steel Park on Saturday afternoon, is a homecoming for Tracey Bell, a celebrity impersonator who made her start being Cher during recess at York Elementary School in northeast Edmonton.

Tracey Bell would like to thank Liz Nicholls and The Edmonton Journal for taking the time to interview her.

Corporate Entertainer Tracey Bell Hearts Edmonton

Tracey Bell was delighted to share a few of her favourite Edmonton memories with Emil Tiedemann of I Heart Edmonton. Before becoming an award-winning corporate entertainer and celebrity impersonator at corporate events, Tracey Bell grew up in Edmonton, giving her lots of experiences and anecdotes to draw from.

Among other things, Tracey Bell shares her memories of impersonating Cher at York Elementary School, adding Marilyn Monroe and Judy Garland impersonations to her repertoire at Steele Heights Junior High and M.E. LaZerte High School, and performing at the opening ceremonies of the 1978 Commonwealth Games at Commonwealth Stadium.

Tracey Bell’s career breakthrough came when she shared a Tina Turner impersonation as an audition to become a regular act at Edmonton nightspot Goose Loonies, where she worked as a coat check attendant.

Here’s a snippet from the article about the result of that experience:

As the in-house act at Goose Loonies, Tracey Bell developed impersonations of dozens of other characters including Liza Minnelli, Madonna, Janis Joplin, and Dolly Parton. After going independent three years later, Tracey created a one-woman show called “8 Divas in 44 Minutes”, highlighted by lightning fast costume changes and comedic impersonations.

Of course, these celebrity impersonations, costume changes, and audience interaction have become a staple for Tracey Bell’s performances around the world at corporate events. The chance to recall where it all started and share some of her earliest memories as a interactive celebrity impersonator with the I Heart Edmonton audience was great fun.

Tracey Bell would like to thank Emil Tiedemann for the article.

Tracey Bell has been performing as a celebrity impersonator and corporate entertainer for over 30 years. To celebrate that milestone, we’re looking back at some of Tracey Bell’s shows in the words of her valued clients.

This reference letter came to us from Brent Stebbings of Sports Innovations International Inc.

__________

“I was amazed.”

To Whom It May Concern,

Recently Tracey Bell appeared as “Marilyn Monroe”, “Cher” and “Dolly Parton” in a special “Night of the Stars” promotion that toured to ten different venues throughout Western Canada.

Working with Tracey over a two week period, I found her to be very professional and most accommodating. Most importantly, her presentation of these artists was, in my opinion, unmatched anywhere. Personally I was amazed at her ability to almost instantly take on a whole new look and personality.

“Truly a world class talent.”

Tracey performed to over 25,000 fans during our tour and the response to her performances were overwhelming. The adjectives included “fantastic”, “unbelievable” and “wonderful”.

My highest praise and recommendation for Tracey Bell. Truly a world class talent.

Sincerely,

Brent Stebbings

Thank you, Brent Stebbings!

Two photo shoots were happening on October 29th, 2014.

The Star of Mary Poppins The Broadway Musical, Sara-Jean Hosie was being photographed all over Vancouver to promote her upcoming show at the Stanley Industrial Alliance Stage while Tracey Bell was dressed as Marilyn Monroe and being photographed at English Bay for the World People Project by Tallulah Tallulah.

By chance, Mary Poppins and Marilyn Monroe saw each other in front of the Sylvia Hotel and spontaneously performed as a duo. It was especially hilarious when Mary Poppins decided to copy Marilyn’s “Seven-Year Itch” pose by standing over Bell’s fan and blowing up her nickers. Who knew such opposites would get along so well?

Sara-Jean has won two Jessie Awards for her theatre work and thrills adults and children as she magically flies over the rooftops of London. The award winning singer will perform “A Spoonful of Sugar” and “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious” as well as the other classic songs in Mary Poppins. The show runs from December 5th to January 4th.

Tracey Bell has won two Entertainer of the Year awards through the Canadian Special Event Industry and thrills guests when her skirt flies in the air at Corporate Events, Family Parties and Gala Fundraisers. She performs, “Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend” and “Happy Birthday Mr. President” as well as other classic songs in her stage show, 8 Divas in 44 Minutes.
